Yesterday I saw a clip that many people may have thought was funny.
To me, it was sad.
A reporter was interviwing people on the street in San Diego about the 4th of July.
Their answers were shocking to me.
“True freedom is handcuffed to knowledge.
Ignorance and freedom go together like oil and water.
The higher your level of ignorance, the lower your level of choice.
Many people are enslaved to the ideas of others because they refuse to put forth the mental effort that personal knowledge requires.
As long as the soul of our ideas, lives in the mind of another,
….we are not free.” -Paul Hutchings
They Died For Freedom (not who you think)
The other night – I heard a story – that I’d heard before – that moved me to tears – AGAIN.
It was from an amazing entrepreneur and freedom fighter named Mars.
In the past, Mars has run a wildly successful marketing empire, assisting entrepreneurs with internet launches of their products and services.
He’s worked with big names like Tony Robbins, Jack Canfield, Ali Brown and others.
One of the first things you’ll notice about Mars, aside from his impressive resume, is his beard.
There were 3 things that really touched me about what Mars had to share.
First – Why he has a beard.
Mars had a brother who served in the military.
He was about to get shipped off to Iraq, and he made a bet with Mars.
The bet was this…
“I bet you can’t grow your beard until I get back from Iraq.”
Mars made the bet.
His brother never came back.
More to the story…
Mars went on to talk about how much freedom means to him.
He told us of his visit to a radio/tv tower in Lithuania that most of us probably have never heard of.
In 1991, Lithuania was fighting for their freedom from the communist rule of the soviet Union.
After a period of turmoil, the debates turned into violence on a day that is sometimes referred to as Bloody Sunday.
The communists sent in military troops and tanks to advance on a radio/TV tower that had been broadcasting the news during Lithuania’s fight for freedom.
As the tanks advanced, civilians stood hand in hand, shoulder to shoulder to form a human barricade against the advancing communist tanks.
Soldiers proceeded to fire live ammunition into the building over the heads of civilians and drive tanks into the human barricade.
The television broadcast is terminated.
The last image to appear on the screen is of a soviet soldier running toward the camera before it’s switched off.
In all, 13 Lithuanians were killed by the Soviet army that day,
… as they stood for freedom.
As Mars told the story, of his visit, he couldn’t keep the tears in.
And neither could I.
Mars told this both of these stories on our hangout the other night.
Here’s the clip.
it’s WORTH watching.
It’s easy to forget.
It takes effort to remember.
It would be EASY to let our priceless liberties be sucked away from us through the simple act of forgetting WHO brought us the gift of freedom,
And WHY they did.
That’s one reason – every 4th of July – We host a very special Independence day conference call – where do our best – to share the story of liberty.
Here’s the replay from this morning’s call.
You can also hear the replay by dialing in on your phone – 712-432-0990 Access 565762#
I have a feeling it could move you.
Here’s the naked link,
…that you’re welcome to share on social media along with your thoughts on freedom so we can spread the message.
We may have been given the gift of freedom .
But it’s up to us – to keep it.
Yours in liberty,
Paul Hutchings
